The so-called defensive stocks refer to stocks that investors are more willing to hold during economic downturns or stock market crashes. Consumer staples stocks, real estate, and utilities are the most typical groups, and Colgate belongs to this category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defensive stocks often lag during bullish moves in the broader market, but start to catch up when growth stocks start to slow. But when it comes to stocks that can be held &#8220;almost&#8221; permanently, there are only a handful of them. I can say with certainty that they are very rare.
