The book “The Art of Thinking (Die Kunst des klaren Denkens)” topped the Der Spiegel bestseller list for a long time as soon as it was published in Germany. It was translated into many languages and received rave reviews. The author Rolf Dobelli is an atypical European celebrity with profound knowledge, wide social connections and keen observation of social phenomena.
When I first saw it in a bookstore ten years ago, I read it that afternoon and was so impressed. I read it again recently and felt that the main message of this book is really worth recommending to everyone.
Origin of this book
The content is a compilation of the author’s speeches at regular gatherings with a group of friends including bankers, academics, doctors, and businessmen. It is very practical, realistic, lively, and persuasive.
In fact, this book is the first published book in a series of books by the author. The contents of the other books are also good and worth reading; but I personally recommend that you read this one first.
Why I recommend this book?
- In fact, it is a psychology book, but reading it will never make you feel boring and tedious like a textbook or dogmatic. It will make you want to finish the book as soon as possible. The author’s writing style is really good and the content is solid.
- If readers carefully savor the key points discussed in the book, they will find that they can be applied to our daily life, work, investment, and life without any subtleties.
- The author uses countless examples in the book, which are all from our daily lives, from what we have believed since childhood, from what everyone thinks is right, from what seems to be right, from what is called social rules or “facts”, or from what is said to be wrong. It is a fallacy that is regarded as truth – but most people just can’t get rid of it.
- You will suddenly understand how politicians, brainwashing articles, commercial advertisements, and mass movements work.
What can you get from this book?
It turns out that our lives are full of wisdom, and everywhere are topics that we have never imagined or thought about. Learn to get inspiration from the little things in life and the things around us in our daily lives. Trigger your heart and brain, start your thinking. You will find that life is indeed full of things that you have forgotten or ignored before.
Once you are enlightened by this book, your perspective on things will be changed. If you don’t have this feeling after reading this book, I suggest you read it again after a while.
Closing words
Don’t just follow the crowd. Truth is not verified by voting or by the strength of the crowd numbers. Learning to think independently is the first step to liberating your life.
