According to the 2024 UBS Billionaires Report, the proportion of wealth of the world’s richest 100 billionaires in the total wealth of the rich has increased from 32.4% in 2015 to 36% in 2024. Three key industries that drove billionaire wealth growth during the decade:
Technology Industry: Over the past decade, the industry has benefited from innovative developments in e-commerce, social media, digital payments, artificial intelligence, and cyber security. Technology billionaires will see the fastest growth, with their wealth increasing from $788.9 billion in 2015 to $2.4 trillion in 2024.
Industrial Industry: The wealth of industrial tycoons increased from US$480.4 billion to US$1.3 trillion, ranking second in terms of growth. Analyzing the main reasons, it is found that mainly supported by national industrial policies, all countries have expanded investment to enhance their competitive advantages, especially the green economy, responding to demographic challenges and the trend of repatriation, which have promoted the development of science and technology industries such as aerospace, defense and electric vehicles.
Materials Industry: The materials industry (including raw material mining, commodities, agriculture, energy and renewable energy) is driven by the demand for commodities in the early stages of the green energy transition. The wealth of the sector’s richest people increased from $718.1 billion to $1.8 trillion.
